Come next year, it's going to take a whole lot longer to drive through Wales.
- The Welsh government on Tuesday approved legislation that lowers the country's national speed limit to just 20 miles per hour. Lawmakers say they hope the reduced speed limit will not only reduce the risk of deadly collisions, but also encourage more people to walk or ride bicycles to work. "The future of our towns and cities depends on our ability to move around sustainably and on solutions that have a positive impact on public health environment and communities," says Welsh climate change minister Julie James. Statistics indicate that 53 percent of all accidents on Welsh roads occur at 30 miles per hour.
- The new speed limit is expected to go into effect at the start of 2023.
