A Russian judge has ordered Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner to stand trial on cannabis possession charges.
- The trial date was handed down Monday, more than four months after Griner was taken into custody for carrying THC vape cartridges through a Russian airport. Griner, who appeared at Monday's court hearing in handcuffs, also learned her detention has been extended by at least six more months, sources say.
- Griner's trial is expected to start on Friday, a rep for the court says. If convicted, the 31-year-old athlete faces a sentence of 10 years in prison. Statistics reveal less than 1 percent of Russian court cases end in acquittal.
