Peter Fonda Dead At 79, Family Asks 'Please Raise A Glass To Freedom'

Actor Peter Fonda has died at the age of 79. He was the son of Hollywood screen legend Henry Fonda, and then became a movie star himself. Best known for his role as Wyatt in 1969's Easy Rider, he was also a producer and writer.

His family confirmed in a statement that he died Friday morning in his Los Angeles home.

"In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts," the family said in a statement. "As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy."

The family confirmed the official cause of death was respiratory failure due to his lung cancer.

“In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy,” they wrote.
“And, while we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life,” the Fonda family finished. “In honor of Peter, please raise a glass to freedom.”

Fonda was born in New York in 1940. Read more about him on KTLA.
