Why Serena Williams Owes The International Tennis Federation $17,000...

Tennis star Serena Williams not only lost the 2018 US Open Championship on Saturday, but she also left the court owing the tournament $17,000 in fines. Talk about a bad day.

She was fined during the second set of the game against Naomi Osaka because the umpire believed she was receiving coaching "signals" from her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou.

"This is unbelievable, every time I play here I have problems," Williams told the umpire. "That's a warning. I didn't get coaching, I didn't get coaching. I didn't get coaching. You need to make an announcement I didn't get coaching.

"I don't cheat, I didn't get coaching. How can you say that? You owe me an apology, you owe me an apology. I have never cheated in my life. I have a daughter and I stand for what's right for her and I have never cheated. And you owe me an apology."

Williams ended up losing 6-2, 6-4 to Osaka. But instead of a happy, celebratory win and moment for Osaka, the match ended in anger, tears, and a broken racket.

"There are men out here that do a lot worse, but because I'm a woman, you're going to take this away from me?" She said. "That is not right."

In total, The International Tennis Federation fined Williams $4,000 for being warned for coaching, $3,000 for breaking her racket, and $10,000 for "verbal abuse."

Ding Dong!!!!

Williams later defended her words and actions during the press conference after the game:

And this morning, The ITF released a statement on Twitter defending the umpire...
