Woman Killed in South Carolina Gator Attack

Another Deadly Alligator Encounter Another deadly alligator encounter for a dog walker has occurred. 

  • Cassandra Cline, 45, of Hilton Head Island was been killed in an alligator attack on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. 
  • Emergency responders found the woman's body in the lagoon. An autopsy is being conducted.
  • Witnesses said she was attacked after trying to protect her pet dog from the 9ft alligator. 
  • The dog was reportedly uninjured in the incident.  
  • The local sheriff's department says officers killed the animal thought to be responsible.


Alligator attacks on humans are rare but not unheard of in the Deep South. 

  • In June, Shizuka Matsuki, 47, a dog-walker in Florida died when a 12-foot, 6-inch alligator grabbed her - the animal was captured and destroyed.
  • In a well-publicized attack in June 2016, a 2-year old boy died after an alligator pulled him into a lagoon near a Walt Disney World hotel.
