CDC Announces Pre Cut Melon Recall Due to Salmonella Outbreak in Multiple States. After 60 confirmed cases of people getting ill, the CDC issued a recall of pre-cut watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe and fruit salads for salmonella. The recall is linked to Caito Foods, LLC in Indianapolis, Indiana, according to the CDC. But the outbreak has spread to other states as well. These include Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio. The melon was sold in clear, plastic clamshell containers at Costco, Jay C, Kroger, Payless, Owen’s, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Walgreens, Walmart, and by Whole Foods/Amazon. Anyone with melon from these retailers or from the infected foods distributor throw them out immediately or return them where they were purchased for a refund. Have you ever purchased a recalled food item? Do you trust pre-cut fruit or do you like to buy the whole melon and cut it yourself?
