The price of gas has been skyrocketing across the nation for the past month and Californians are really feeling the effects. In one month the price for a gallon of gas has gone up by 90 cents. Overnight gas in Los Angeles County went up by 12 cents. Right now it costs an average of $6.28 per gallon in LA. The city hit a record-high price in June of last year when gas was an average of $6.44 per gallon and some experts say the current surge in price could possibly reach a new all-time-high.

The current national average for gas is $3.83, but all of the additional gas taxes and bureaucracy is causing Californians to pay way more than they should. But Governor Newsom is blaming gas companies for the over $2 discrepancy.

"They're screwing us... When you add the gas tax, you add cap and trade and you add the low carbon fuel standards... I'm being as transparent as I can be. And you add our unique blend, you get a differential around 85 cents. That you can justify - not $2.06. That's where the oil companies are screwing us,"

California has the highest gas price in the nation.
