San Francisco police arrested a man today for allegedly beating a former fire commissioner with a metal pipe. On Wednesday evening 53-year-old ex-San Francisco fire department member Don Carmagnani was walking around his neighborhood to his parent's house when he was attacked by 24-year-old Garret Doty. Doty is now facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury.

Carmagnani is currently in a medically induced coma after having emergency skull surgery due to the attack. Carmagnani's elderly father 78-year-old Ray Carmagnani told the San Francisco Chronicle:

“We’ve leaving,” he said. “Enough is enough. We’ll go to Nevada, we’ll go to Arizona, we’ll go somewhere … but I’m not staying here. I can’t worry about walking out my door and getting attacked.”
