What Does Coffee Have To Do With Climate Change?

Well, apparently, a group of Canadian researchers concluded that the way we consume our coffee, has a connection to climate change!!

Researchers Luciano Rodrigues Viana, Charles Marty, Jean-François Boucher and Pierre-Luc Dessureault believe that we must moderate our intake of coffee to help solve the issue.

The group contributed to the published analysis in The Conversation and stated that the pollution created from preparing a cup of Joe was just the beginning of what could be a bigger issue if no action is taken.

According to FOX, “Limiting your contribution to climate change requires an adapted diet, and coffee is no exception. Choosing a mode of coffee preparation that emits less GHGs (greenhouse gases) and moderating your consumption are part of the solution," the researchers posted.

The study also found that using coffee pods to brew coffee contributed less to the carbon footprint than brewing coffee with a regular filter.

They added, “Our analysis clearly showed that traditional filter coffee has the highest carbon footprint, mainly because a greater quantity of coffee powder is used to produce the amount of coffee. This process also consumes more electricity to heat the water and keep it warm."

[They decided to compare] “brewing with coffee pods, brewing coffee the [common] way in a coffee maker, brewing coffee with a French press and using instant coffee.”

Their findings showed that the usage of instant coffee was the most environmental-friendly method and how the production of coffee contributed highly more to the total emission than coffee preparation, according to the study.

Will you making some adjustments to your coffee cosumption?
