Last Summer, two police officers we’re shot to death as they both went to a El Monte Motel to check up on the welfare of a woman that was allegedly stabbed.
That's when Cpl. Michael Paredes, 42, and Officer Joseph Santana, 31, were ambushed by the suspect began to shoot at the officers.
The suspect was identified as Whittier resident, 35-year-old Justin Flores who after having a full-blown shootout with the injured officers, decided to exit the room.
That’s when other officers responded to the call and ended up shooting Flores “about 20 times before he collapsed onto the ground,” but not before returning fire at the deputies before pulling the trigger on himself.
According to the coroner’s report, “before turning the gun on himself, Flores had been struck by police gunfire in his head, arms, legs, back and several other bullet-grazing wounds on his body.”
