A Ban on Gas Stoves Amid Health Fears?

There has been speculation surrounding the harmful indoor pollutants that are being released from gas stoves that are causing major respiratory and health issues.

According to Bloomberg, “Natural gas stoves, which are used in about 40% of homes in the US, emit air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and fine particulate matter at levels the EPA and World Health Organization have said are unsafe and linked to respiratory illness, cardiovascular problems, cancer, and other health conditions”

A study conducted from International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health concluded that over "12% of current childhood asthma cases in the US can be attributed to gas stove use.

Back in 2021, New York City's Council decided to ban natural gas hookups in new buildings smaller than seven stories by the end of this year. In California, the Air Resources Board voted to ban the sale of natural gas-fired furnaces and water heaters by 2030.

A majority of customers are changing their appliances from gas to electric as they are likely to get some assistance from the weather spending bill that was introduced last Summer. The bill covers rebates up to $840 in purchases of new electric ranges for funding those within the low-to-moderate income household brackets.
