California water agencies that rely on the Colorado River intend to dramatically restrict their consumption of river water beginning next year due to the river's issue and the ongoing decline of reservoir levels.
Since 19 million people across six counties are supplied by cities and municipal organizations, leaders of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California declared they support obligatory conservation measures beginning the following year.
The LA Times reports that California's water agencies are under pressure to make considerable water savings. Federal officials mandated in June that the seven states that rely on the Colorado River create plans to significantly reduce annual water diversions by 2 million to 4 million acre-feet. However, the discussions between the countries were heated and acrimonious, and no agreement was reached.
