Today California sued the Trump administration, arguing that the decision to rescind DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is unconstitutional.
State Attorney General Xavier Becerra said he decided to file the lawsuit because ending DACA would especially hurt California, home to a quarter of the 800,000 people in the program.
Becerra said:
“I think everyone recognizes the scope and breadth of the Trump decision to terminate DACA hits hardest here."
He added that DACA, which came from former President Obama, is legal and repealing it violates due process rights:
“It’s fully lawful, it’s totally American in its values and it’s an unmitigated success for California’s economy and the country’s economy."
