Naked brothers arrested for breaking into O.C. megachurch

Two brothers were arrested on suspicion of burglary and felony vandalism last night after they broke into an Orange County church with a replica rifle and a smoke bomb.

24-year-old Paul Vincent Vielkind and 22-year-old Brandon Joseph Vielkind from Riverside surrendered after a short standoff outside of Harvest Orange County, a nondenominational evangelical church in Irvine.

One of the men was naked, and the other was only wearing his underwear.

Around 7:10 p.m. a security guard called police saying he saw two men carrying a rifle breaking into the church through a glass door.

Irvine police and SWAT were able to watch the brothers inside thanks to security cameras.

Close to 9:20 p.m. the brothers threw a smoke bomb outside the church and left the building, one naked and the other partially clothed.

Police didn't find any weapons at the scene other than the fake rifle. The church's pastor Greg Laurie said:

“We are grateful to the Irvine police for their quick response. Church operations and services will continue on Thursday without interruption. As it turns out, the suspects did not have real guns. Harvest continues to work with local authorities to assess the motive and intention of these criminals.”
