The recall against State Senator Josh Newman is working, and it's scaring the Democrats so much that they're doing everything they can to keep him in his seat. They're also flooding Newman with money, so it's no surprise to learn that his campaign has the most cash out of all of the state's lawmakers this year.
During the first six months of 2017, Newman raised more than $1.6 million. His fundraising got off to a slow start, with about $60,000 through March, but things picked up steam after he voted for the massive car and gas tax in April.
In June he got more than $1.1 million, and had the help of the California Democratic Party, public employee unions, building trades, and more allies.
That month his anti-recall committee, which is not covered by candidate contribution limits, got over $974,000 in itemized donations.
