Andrew Carnegie accumulated massive amounts of wealth in his lifetime and did so with barely a dime to his name.

Besides being possibly one of the richest men in history, he was also possibly the most generous.

At the age of 66, he sold his steel company after building it to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars decided to dedicate the rest of his life to philanthropy.

For 10 years, Carnegie distributed $350 million to schools, libraries, colleges and other public works.
