Michael Cohen To Accuse President Trump of Criminal Conduct In Testimony

Michael Cohen to accuse president trump of criminal conduct when testifying in front of congress this week

President Donald Trump's one-time personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, is set to unleash a series of accusations against Trump when he testifies in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday (2/27).

According to a report in the New York Times that cites sources familiar with Cohen's testimony, the former lawyer plans on providing evidence of potential criminal conduct by the president after he took office. The person familiar did not say what the president did, only that it occurred during Trump's first year in the White House.

Trump has repeatedly denied having any connection with Cohen and his crimes, deriding his former personal lawyer as a "liar" and "rat."

The House Oversight and Reform Committee will delve into Trump's business, finances as well as other avenues of discussion. Cohen is appearing voluntarily before the committee after he was subpoenaed by the Senate. The Committee will not delve into any questions about Russian interference in the 2016 election, which is being investigated by the House and Senate Intelligence Committee and special counsel Robert Mueller.

Last November, Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow in 2016. He also misled Congress about the timing of the negotiations for the Tower in order to stay in line with Trump's "political message."

Cohen also pleaded guilty in August in connection to financial crimes and campaign finance violations relating to a payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an affair she had with Trump. Prosecutors referred to Trump as "Individual 1" in court filings.

Cohen plans on bringing documents that will support his claims and will describe in 'granular detail' the plan to pay porn star Stormy Daniels. Cohen will also reportedly discuss plans the president made for a Trump Tower project in Russia after the Iowa caucuses took place in February 2016. The former personal fixer for Trump will also discuss racist statements made by the president, as well as lying or cheating in business.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders denounced Cohen in a statement Wednesday morning.

“Disgraced felon Michael Cohen is going to prison for lying to Congress and making other false statements,” said Sanders. “Sadly, he will go before Congress this week and we can expect more of the same. It’s laughable that anyone would take a convicted liar like Cohen at his word, and pathetic to see him given yet another opportunity to spread his lies.”

Cohen is scheduled to begin serving a three-year prison sentence on May 6th.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST Wednesday morning.
