Footage of Trump Returning Salute to General Released by North Korea

A newly released clip from President Donald Trump's historic meeting in Singapore with North Korea's Kim Jong Un appears to show the president returning a salute to a North Korean general.

Video released by North Korean state media showed Trump and Kim walking down a greeting line to shake hands, when the two entered a room filled with members of Kim's delegation. As Trump begins shaking hands with people in the room, he turns to one North Korean General who was identified by CNN as Gen. No Kwang Chol. Trump first extends his hand to No, to which the general responds with a salute. Trump salutes back and the two men then shake hands.

General protocol for U.S. Presidents is to not salute another country's military officers, but the White House says it was part of a broader goal of showing Kim and his entourage respect.

President Trump said the historic summit went "great" and "better than anyone could have expected." The two leaders signed a document, the contents of which are still unclear, but Trump says the document is "comprehensive."
