Sheriff Joe Arpaio Running For Senate In Arizona

Controversial Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio is running for the U.S. Senate.  In a tweet linked to his official campaign website, Republican Arpaio said his one unwavering mission is to support President Trump's agenda and policies:

I am running for the U.S. Senate from the Great State of Arizona, for one unwavering reason: to support the agenda and policies of President Donald Trump in his mission to Make America Great Again.

Arpaio is running for Jeff Flake's seat, who announced he will not seek re-election in 2018. He will face off against a relatively unknown Kelli Ward and Rep. Martha McSally, who the Washington Examiner believes is the "Republicans’ strongest general election candidate."

Arpaio, who spoke with the Washington Examiner by phone, said he's ready for a fight:

I am outspoken. I’m looking forward to it. Let them come. They’ll have their political firing squads and bring tons of money here, because they don’t want to lose,” he said. “I just want to do everything I can to support our president.

The 85-year old Arpaio had been convicted of contempt of court in a case involving racial profiling but Trump pardoned the former Maricopa County sheriff last summer. Arpaio lost his bid for a seventh term as sheriff in November.
