Here's a heartfelt story that we're hoping brightens your week as much as it has brightened ours!
A heart attack nearly took a Texas jail guards life two years ago while he was on duty. Gary Grimm remembers the incident as being completely terrifying because of the vulnerable situation it put him in.
Grimm sat across eight inmates who were locked behind a gate when the heart issues took hold. It was to his surprise that the inmates were able to break free- not attempting to escape, but to save his life.
“Instead of overtaking me and taking my gun, and killing me or taking a hostage and escaping, they looked at me as a human being," Grimm said. “I don’t care if they’re a drug user, hot check writer or child molester. They’re still a human being. I don’t have to like what they did, but it’s not my position to be the judge and jury.”
Although the story happened two years ago, Grimm still thanks the inmates for all they did to save him. He is currently waiting to undergo a heart transplant surgery and has since retired from work.
We wish you all the best Gary!
