A man in Norway discovered a Maine Department of Transportation hard hat more than 3,300 miles away from its home.

According to Huffington Post, a man in Norway was collecting trash when he came across the white hard hat buried in seaweed. He spotted an American flag and a MaineDOT logo on the hard hat. When he got home later that day he found that the hat belonged to the Maine Department of Transportation so he decided to reach out via social media.

He told MainDOT he was astonished and impressed about the long voyage the small helmet had taken. The department has no idea how it got there but they are excited to have a new pen pal. The department decided to let the man keep the hat. They are also planning to send him some more items from the state. Whenever he decides to visit Maine, he is going to be more than ready.
