SYLMAR (CNS) - A California Highway Patrol officer was rushed to a hospital Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle while assisting with a disabled vehicle on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sylmar, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 3:20 a.m. on the southbound freeway, north of the state Route 14, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Paramedics rushed the officer to a hospital. His condition was not immediately clear.

The southbound freeway was closed for hours north of SR14 while the crash was investigated. All lanes were reopened at around 10:30 a.m.
