LONG BEACH (CNS) - City officials in Long Beach held a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for the MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project.

"Today, we're taking an exciting step that will enhance the experience for families and patrons at MacArthur Park," Mayor Rex Richardson said. "This project will create an inviting, engaging space that fosters a sense of community and playful, active recreation for residents of all ages."

The park, located in central Long Beach on Anaheim Street just east of Orange Avenue, will get significant renovation to its sports courts, a versatile multi-purpose green space, picnic areas, a new signature playground and other enhancements.

The project's design is reflective of community input garnered through extensive public engagement opportunities, including programming priorities, accessibility and diversity of recreational elements.

"We are thrilled to finally reach the building phase of this transformative project," Councilwoman Suely Saro said. "The MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional recreational spaces that enhance the quality of life for our residents. I am grateful for the continued support and collaboration from the community on this important project."

Construction began in late April and is expected to be completed by summer 2025.
