LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Police sought the public's help Thursday in hopes of identifying the driver who killed a 77-year-old pedestrian just east of Little Tokyo in mid-April and fled the scene.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the pedestrian was fatally struck around 8 p.m. April 16 near the intersection of South Mission Road and First Street in an unmarked crosswalk.

Police said a vehicle traveling southbound on Mission Road struck the pedestrian without stopping and rendering aid as required by law. The driver continued down Mission Road and made a turn westbound onto First Street then headed north on Vignes Street.

Police said the vehicle was last seen after turning left onto Commercial Street from Vignes.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene. The county medical examiner identified him as Jose Dorado.

Investigators described the suspect vehicle as a black Toyota Camry or Nissen Altima with black rims.

Police released a surveillance video in hopes of identifying the driver.
