ARCADIA (CNS) - A man allegedly tied to a package theft in Arcadia was killed Wednesday morning in a traffic crash in neighboring Monrovia, authorities said.

Officers responded at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a stolen package from a home in the 200 block of East Sycamore Avenue, said Jocelyn Julian-Clemente of the Arcadia Police Department.

"The package was equipped with a global positioning satellite (GPS) device and the officers followed its path into the city of Monrovia," Julian- Clemente said.

While attempting to locate the tracked package, the officers came upon a solo-vehicle crash in the 300 block of West Maple Avenue. Paramedics rushed the driver and his passenger to a hospital, where the motorist died from his injuries and his passenger was still being treated for moderate injuries, she said.

"The GPS-tracked package, and additional mail which appeared to be stolen, was located inside the vehicle and recovered," she said.

No further information was immediately available.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to call the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5151. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or tips may be sent to lacrimestoppers.org.
