COMPTON (CNS) - Deputies recovered a handgun following a vehicle and foot pursuit of a suspect in Compton, authorities said Monday.

Deputies observed about 4 p.m. Sunday a motorist driving recklessly in the area of 124th Street and Mona Boulevard, according to a watch commander at the sheriff's Compton station.

A routine traffic stop triggered a vehicle pursuit and the suspect allegedly ditched his vehicle and initiated a foot pursuit.

A K-9 from the sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau was sent to the location and the foot chase ended about 6 p.m. The suspect was taken into custody and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

There was no other immediate information.
