HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - A man who allegedly assaulted another man in Hollywood earlier this week was arrested by detectives who reviewed videos of the crime, police said Thursday.

Officers were sent to the 6700 block of Hollywood Boulevard, a couple of blocks east of Highland Avenue, about 2:15 a.m. Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"When officers arrived, they located a severely injured male victim at the scene," police said in a statement. "Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was treated for several injuries."

According to police, a video of the incident was recorded by a witness and posted on various social media platforms.

"The video showed the victim and the suspect involved in a fight," police said. "The victim was pepper sprayed and knocked to the ground. The suspect continued to punch the victim while he was lying unconscious on the ground, resulting in severe injuries to the victim."

Detectives discovered other videos that led them to identify Jorge Garcia, 27, of Los Angeles as the suspect, police said.

Garcia was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hollywood area and was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for filing consideration, police said.

Anyone with information about the crime was urged to call detectives at 213-972-2971, or 877-LAPD-247. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
