The shooting was reported just after 3 a.m. and officers responded to the area around Torrance Boulevard and Reynolds Drive regarding an officer needs assistance call. When they arrived, they learned detectives were serving a search warrant at one of the residences in a sexual assault investigation when someone shot at them and an officer-involved shooting occurred, Fox 11 reported.

The 44-year-old man was taken to a hospital by Torrance Fire Department personnel in an unknown condition.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, LAPD officers were involved in the investigation. Other details were not immediately available.

Police closed all lanes of Torrance Boulevard from Anza Avenue and Reynolds Drive for an unknown duration while they investigated the shooting, according to the Torrance Police Department, which reported around daybreak that there was "no threat to the public."
