LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Southland experienced more rain and cold temperatures, with mountain snow and thunderstorms, but the spring storm is moving out of the area Monday.
Most areas reported a half-inch of rain or less, according to the National Weather Service. Snow levels fell as low as 3,500 feet with some light snow over the Grapevine stretch of the Golden State (5) Freeway, the NWS said.
The forecast also called for gusty winds in some areas.
Highs were mostly in the 50s Sunday in Los Angeles County and in the low to mid-60s in Orange County, with winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph in the Antelope Valley.
An NWS winter weather advisory was in effect through 5 p.m. Sunday for both the San Gabriel Mountains and the Highway 14 Corridor including Acton, Mount Wilson, Mount Baldy, Wrightwood and Angeles Crest Highway.
A high surf advisory was in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday for the Malibu coast and Los Angeles County beaches, with waves of 4 to 8 feet and dangerous rip currents.
The weekend storm system will be followed by dry and warmer weather that will see daytime temperatures quickly rise to the 70s, with overnight lows in the upper 40s and 50s throughout the week.
