LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A sinkhole that opened during February's storms and forced the closure of San Diego (405) Freeway off-ramps at Skirball Center Drive in the Sepulveda Pass has been repaired, Caltrans announced Friday, and the ramps have been reopened.
According to Caltrans, the sinkhole was caused by the rupture of a drainage pipe running under the ramps due to the high volume of water from the February deluge of rain.
As a result, the southbound 405 Freeway off-ramp to Skirball Center Drive and the northbound 405 ramp to Skirball/Mulholland Drive were both closed for weeks.
The ramps reopened ahead of another strong storm expected to douse the region this weekend.
"Crews were able to repair, clean and reinforce concrete around the pipe which will keep it secure in future storms," according to Caltrans.
