LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The cause of a Metro bus crash in Leimert Park involving a suspected DUI driver is under investigation by police Friday.

A Metro bus driver was among nine people taken to hospitals following the four-vehicle crash Thursday that left a SUV on its side.

The crash occurred around 3:40 p.m. Thursday in the 3500 block of West 39th Street, near Crenshaw Boulevard, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Video from the scene showed a silver SUV on its side in the street, another vehicle with extensive damage and a Metro bus pulled over to the side of the street.

"This afternoon, a Metro bus (Line 210) traveling northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard near 39th Street was struck by a vehicle as part of a four- vehicle accident involving a reportedly intoxicated driver," Metro said in a statement.

"A bus operator and one passenger were transported to local area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, and 10 other passengers reported more injuries."

Firefighters evaluated at least 14 people, including occupants from the bus and other vehicles, officials said.

According to the LAFD, three people were taken to hospitals in moderate condition, while six others were taken to hospitals in fair condition.

"The rest declined ambulance transport to an area hospital after being assessed on scene," Prange said.
