Cord Jefferson to Receive WGA's Paul Selvin Award for `American Fiction'

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Oscar winner Cord Jefferson will receive the Writers Guild of America's Paul Selvin Award for his adapted screenplay "American Fiction."

The Paul Selvin Award honors a script that "best embodies the spirit of the constitutional and civil rights and liberties that are indispensable to the survival of free writers everywhere."

Jefferson, who won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay, is also nominated for the WGA Award in the same category. The script is based on Percival Everett's novel "Erasure." The film, directed by Jefferson, starred Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright.

A former journalist, Jefferson is a veteran television writer, including work on shows such as "The Good Place," "Master of None," "Succession" and "Watchmen." "American Fiction" is is first screenplay.

Jefferson will receive the honor during the WGA Awards West Coast ceremony April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium. The event will be hosted by actress/producer Niecy Nash-Betts.
