LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles City Council Friday approved a $87,625 agreement that would allow completion of the Expo/Northvale Bike Path, connecting downtown to Santa Monica.
Council members voted 12-0 in favor of acquiring a 712-square-foot easement at 3185 Motor Ave. -- a right to use or enter a property of another without possessing it. As part of the agreement between the city and property owners Aron and Ester Began, the city sold them an 800-square-foot parcel of land at 3195 S. Motor Ave.
Council members Paul Krekorian, Heather Hutt and Bob Blumenfield were absent during the vote.
According to a report from the City Administrative Officer, the Expo/Northvale Bike Path is part of the Exposition Light Rail Line Project to Santa Monica. While most of this bike path has been completed, a "significant gap" exists between Overland and Motor avenues. The easement and negotiated compensation was necessary to close the gap and finalize the bike path project.
The Department of Public Works and Bureau of Engineering reported the property at 8185 Motor Ave. was appraised at $66,500 and the city-owned parcel was appraised at $2,500. Ultimately, the sale price was negotiated at $87,625, officials noted.
Money for this transaction comes from a special fund associated with the project.
