SANTA MONICA (CNS) - A parolee who allegedly inflicted "severe injuries requiring hospitalization" during a domestic violence incident in Santa Monica has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
The assault occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on March 6 when Derrick Wright, 46, "attacked the victim and then brandished a replica firearm at the victim and her daughter before fleeing the location," according to Lt. Erika Aklufi of the Santa Monica Police Department.
Detectives were able to track Wright to an address in Long Beach and obtain a search warrant, Aklufi said.
On March 7, police took him into custody after he fled the first location and broke into a neighboring Long Beach home, she said.
Wright was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence with an enhancement for great bodily injury, misdemeanor child abuse for brandishing the weapon at the victim's daughter and misdemeanor aggravated trespassing for his actions during the arrest in Long Beach, she said.
"Wright has an extensive criminal history, including a misdemeanor arrest by SMPD (Santa Monica Police Department) in July of 2023 for domestic violence and a violation of parole," Aklufi added.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the alleged crimes was urged to contact the SMPD at 310-458-8427 or chad.Goodwin@santamonica.gov. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
