LOS ANGELES (CNS) - One day before Hollywood honors its best, the winners of the 44th annual Razzie Awards -- which razz the worst in filmmaking from the past year -- were announced Saturday, with the horror turn on a children's classic "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" leading the list of dishonored.
The bloody tale centered on children's characters from the iconic Hundred Acre Woods, who typically use their imaginations to find adventure and friendship, and turned it on is head with the playmates instead embarking on a bloody rampage as they search for a new source of food.
The film won in all five Razzie categories in which it was nominated, including worst picture.
It also earned dishonors for worst screen couple -- "Pooh & Piglet as the blood-thirsty slasher/killers"; worst remake, rip-off or sequel; worst director and worst screenplay for Rhys Frake-Waterfield.
The Sylvester Stallone action sequel "Expend4bles" earned two Razzies -- including one for Stallone for worst supporting actor, and another for Megan Fox for worst supporting actress.
Fox collected a pair of Razzies in this year's competition, also being named worst actress for "Johnny & Clyde."
Venerated actor Jon Voight, a Best Actor Oscar winner and four-time Academy Award nominee, was named worst actor for his work in "Mercy."
On the more positive side of the awards, Fran Drescher was named the winner of the Razzie Redeemer Award, an honor given to a past Razzie winner or contender "who has since gone on to better things." Drescher, president of the SAG-AFTRA actors' union, was recognized by the Golden Raspberry Foundation "for her brilliant shepherding of the actors' guild through a prolonged 2023 strike, with a highly successful conclusion."
Winners of the Razzie Awards are announced annually the day before the Academy Awards ceremony.
