LOS ANGELES (CNS) - For the second time in two days, a United Airlines plane that took off from San Francisco was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport due to a mechanical problem.

United Flight 821, an Airbus A320, landed safely at about 4:30 p.m. at LAX. Los Angeles Fire Department crews had gone on emergency standby at the airport as the plane approached, and they met the plane when it landed.

The flight had been bound for Mexico City. Scanner traffic indicated that the pilot reported a hydraulic failure on the plane, prompting the diversion to LAX.

ABC7 reported there were 111 passengers and crew members aboard. No injuries were reported.

After landing safely, the plane was towed to a passenger terminal.

According to United's website, the passengers were scheduled to board another plane and continue their journey at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

On Thursday, a United Airlines plane lost a tire while taking off in San Francisco and made a safe emergency landing at LAX. Video posted online showed United Flight 35 taking off in San Francisco, and the wheel can be seen falling away from the Boeing 777-200. Some parked cars were damaged by the falling tire.

No injuries were reported.

That plane, which was bound for Japan, landed at LAX around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
