LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A woman accompanied by a child was taken into custody Thursday after allegedly stabbing another woman at a bus stop in the South Los Angeles area.

Paramedics were sent to Slauson Avenue and Figueroa Street about 8:35 a.m. Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The injured woman was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

"Earlier this morning, two women waiting on the sidewalk at a bus stop near Slauson and Figueroa got into an argument that resulted in one of them stabbing the other," Jose Ubaldo of Metro said in a statement.

"Following that incident on the sidewalk, the victim boarded one bus and the suspect boarded a different bus," Ubaldo said. "The bus operator on the victim's bus noticed her injury and immediately called for assistance, which allowed the Los Angeles Fire Department to quickly respond and treat the victim's injuries. She was treated at the scene and was subsequently able to provide the LAPD with her statement as they started their investigation.

"The second bus operator alerted the LAPD of the suspect's location, and the LAPD was able to quickly apprehend the suspect," Ubaldo said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the woman who was arrested -- whose name was not immediately released -- was accompanied by a child about 7 or 8 years of age. She allegedly was armed with a knife, according to reports from the scene.

"Metro thanks the bus operators for being alert and taking quick action to help get aid for the victim and for leading the LAPD to quickly apprehend the suspect," Ubaldo said.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
