PLACENTIA (CNS) - Placentia police investigating a report of "a possible gunshot being fired" took a person into custody inside a church, where a Mass was being celebrated when officers stormed inside.
Officers responded to the 700 block of North Bradford Avenue about 8:20 a.m., according to the Placenta Police Department.
"A male subject was seen with what appeared to be a handgun," police said in a statement late Tuesday morning. "Officers responded and took the male in question into custody."
No injuries were reported, police said. The name of the suspect was not immediately released.
Video aired by ABC7 showed a man being detained at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, which officers entered in the middle of a morning Mass. The church was live-streaming the service, and officers can be heard entering the building and ordering people to put their hands in the air, according to the live-stream video aired by Channel 7.
"Out of an abundance of caution, Valencia High School, which is located at 500 N. Bradford Avenue, Kraemer Middle School and Ruby Drive Elementary, were advised to shelter in place," police said.
"All students and staff are safe," police said. "Kraemer Middle School and Ruby Drive are no longer in shelter in place status. Valencia High will remain in shelter in place while the investigation is still ongoing at the scene."
Police told ABC7 at the scene that investigators were still searching for a weapon. No injuries were reported, and it remained unclear if any shots were actually fired.
