MONTEREY PARK (CNS) - After running inside a Walgreens pharmacy in Monterey Park after leading police on a high speed freeway chase that began in Ontario, two grand theft auto suspects managed to escape and are on the loose Thursday.

Ontario Police Department officers began pursuing a Dodge Challenger driven by the suspects before 7 p.m. Wednesday on the Pomona (60) Freeway in a chase that reached speeds over 100 mph, according to KCAL. The suspects jumped out of the car at the corner of Collegian Avenue and Dorner Drive, then ran into the Walgreens, KCAL reported.

Monterey Park Police Department officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies set up a perimeter around the building but did not see either suspects exit, according to KCAL, which reported the driver is suspected of assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Authorities ordered everyone inside to exit the pharmacy. One by one, they walked out of the front doors with their hands up but authorities failed to find the two men, prompting a standoff, KCAL reported.

According to Fox 11, police believe the suspects might have walked out disguised as customers and left the scene.

"Unfortunately, they manage to evade the perimeter and got away," LASD Deputy Brenda Serna told City News Service.

Serna said Ontario police are continuing to search for the suspects.
