LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A Northridge man who was charged in a wrong-way freeway crash in West Los Angeles that killed another motorist has been sentenced to 11 years and eight months in state prison.
Marco Abrego, now 46, pleaded no contest Wednesday to one count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury in connection with the Feb. 16, 2020, crash that killed Joey Allen, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Two other charges -- murder and driving with a 0.08% blood-alcohol content causing injury -- were dismissed as a result of Abrego's plea, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Abrego was behind the wheel of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma that was traveling southbound in the northbound carpool lane when it slammed into a 2000 Jaguar S just south of Getty Center Drive just after 2:25 a.m. that day, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Allan, a 43-year-old Lancaster man who was driving the Jaguar, died at the scene of the crash, according to records from the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
Abrego was arrested that morning by the CHP and has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
