LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Thursday for the eighth time in 10 days, increasing 1 cent to $4.90.

The average price has increased 4.9 cents over the past 10 days, including two-tenths of a cent Wednesday and 2.1 cents Tuesday, its largest increase since March 3, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 3.5 cents more than one week ago but 4.5 cents less than one month ago and $1.04 lower than one year ago.

The average price has dropped $1.594 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5.

The Orange County average price also rose for the eighth time in 10 days, increasing eight-tenths of a cent to $4.864. It has risen 6.2 cents over the past 10 days, including two-tenths of a cent Wednesday and 2.3 cents Tuesday, its largest increase since March 2.

The rising prices are partially the result of a supply problem in Arizona which may be affecting the amount of gasoline being produced locally for Southern California, Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California, told City News Service.

The national average price rose for the ninth consecutive day, increasing 2.5 cents to $3.553. It has increased 11.8 cents over the past nine days, including 2.1 cents Wednesday.
