Butler, Blanchett Earn SAG Award Nominations

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Austin Butler and Cate Blanchett will see if they can keep the movie award momentum going with nominations for Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Butler was nominated for best actor in a leading role and Blanchett earned a nomination for best actress in a leading role Wednesday in the SAG nominations announced by Ashley Park and Haley Lu Richardson via Instagram Live.

The 29th SAG Awards will honor outstanding individual, cast, and ensemble performances from 2022.

Butler won a Golden Globe award for best actor in a drama for his role in "Elvis" and Blanchett was the Golden Globe winner for best actress in a drama for her role in "Tár."

The other SAG Awards nominees for best actor in a leading role are Colin Farrell for "The Banshees of Inisherin," Brendan Fraser for "The Whale," Bill Nighy for "Living," and Adam Sandler for "Hustle."

The SAG Awards nominees for actress in a leading role are Viola Davis for "The Woman King," Ana de Armas for "Blonde," Danielle Deadwyler for "Till," and Michelle Yeoh for "Everything Everywhere All at Once."

"Babylon," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "Everything Everywhere All at Once," "The Fabelmans," and "Women Talking" were nominated for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

"Better Call Saul," "The Crown," "Ozark," "Severance," and "The White Lotus" were nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.

"Abbott Elementary," "Barry," "The Bear," "Hacks," and "Only Murders in the Building" were nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series.

The annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony will stream live on Netflix beginning in 2024 as part of a new partnership, it was announced Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new partnership with Netflix and we look forward to expanding the global audience for our show," SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said in a statement. "As the only televised awards program exclusively honoring the performances of actors, whose work is admired by millions of fans, the SAG Awards are a unique and cherished part of the entertainment universe."

The 29th annual SAG Awards is scheduled to be broadcast on Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. from the Fairmont Century Plaza and will be streamed on the Netflix's YouTube channel.

"The SAG Awards are beloved by the creative community and viewers alike, and now even more fans around the world will be able to celebrate these talented actors, " Netflix Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria said. "As we begin to explore live streaming on Netflix, we look forward to partnering with SAG- AFTRA to elevate and expand this special ceremony as a global live event in 2024 and the years to come."
