FULLERTON (CNS) - A 57-year-old Fullerton man was charged Friday with attempting to lure a teenage boy for sex.

Police were called just before 5 p.m. Monday to the 1800 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue, near Brookhurst Road, regarding a man contacting a 14- year-old to engage in sex acts and sending the victim lewd photographs, police said.

Police said they lacked enough evidence to take John Gradney into custody at the time, but were able to gather enough evidence to arrest him Wednesday.

Gradney was charged with contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sex offense and meeting a minor to commit lewd conduct, both felonies.

Gradney has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2009, according to court records. Most of the cases were for possession of drugs, but he pleaded guilty in July 2014 to lewd conduct in a public place and indecent exposure, both misdemeanors. In November of 2014, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest.

Gradney did not enter a plea Friday at his arraignment, which was rescheduled for Jan. 13 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
