LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man was in custody tonight after leading the California Highway Patrol on a pursuit from East Los Angeles to Palos Verdes in an older silver sedan missing a rear license plate.

The pursuit started around 3:45 p.m. near Cal State Los Angeles and ended at 4:37 p.m. on Hawthorne Boulevard at Woodbridge Road when the driver stopped and talked with CHP officers in a patrol vehicle next to him, giving them a chance to box-in the sedan.

The driver tried to reverse the car, causing a CHP officer on foot to jump back, but the suspect stopped, was quickly pulled out of the car and wrestled into handcuffs by officers. The pursuit initially began because of the missing license plate but officers speculated the car might be stolen, according to NBC4, which covered the pursuit from the air. The driver did not speed, for the most part, and stopped at red lights during the pursuit.
