`Top Gun,' `Everything Everywhere' Among Nominees for Grownup Movie Awards

LOS ANGELES, (CNS) - ``Women Talking,'' ``Top Gun: Maverick'' and``Everything Everywhere All At Once'' were among the top nominees announced today for the annual Movies for Grownups Awards presented by AARP The Magazine.

The films were all nominated for best movie for grownups, along with ``Elvis,'' ``The Fabelmans,'' ``Tár'' and ``The Woman King.''  The awards were developed to honor ``movies for grownups, by grownups, by advocating for the 50-plus audience, fighting industry ageism, and encouraging films and TV shows that resonate with older viewers.''

Nominated for best actress were Cate Blanchett for ``Tár,'' Viola Davis for ``The Woman King,'' Lesley Manville for ``Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,'' Emma Thompson for ``Good Luck to You, Leo Grande'' and Michelle Yeoh for ``Everything Everywhere All at Once.''

For best actor, nominations went to Tom Cruise for ``Top Gun: Maverick,'' Brendan Fraser for ``The Whale,'' Tom Hanks for ``A Man Called Otto,'' Bill Nighy for ``Living'' and Adam Sandler for ``Hustle.''

James Cameron earned a nod for best director for ``Avatar: The Way of Water,'' as did Todd Field for ``Tár,'' Baz Luhrmann for ``Elvis,'' Gina Prince- Bythewood for ``The Woman King'' and Steven Spielberg for ``The Fabelmans.'' On the small screen, nominations for best TV series went to ``Abbott Elementary,'' ``The Old Man,'' ``Only Murders in the Building,'' ``The White Lotus'' and ``Yellowstone.''

The awards will be presented Jan. 28 at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, in a ceremony hosted by Alan Cumming.
