LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man who threatened passersby with a handgun under a freeway in the Mid-City area was taken into custody today after a standoff with police officers.
The officers were summoned at 3 p.m. to the area of Beverlywood Street and Garth Avenue, where the suspect pointed the apparent handgun to his own head, according to a Los Angeles Police Department press release.
The officers took up safe positions and eventually persuaded the man to put down the gun, police said. It turned out to be a replica pellet revolver.
The suspect was hospitalized for a mental evaluation, police said.
