LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The son of a 67-year-old man killed after being accidentally struck by a motorcycle allegedly driven by an on-duty Azusa police motorcycle officer in January is suing the city for wrongful death.

Plaintiff Kevin Li's Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit seeks unspecified damages as well as compensation for funeral expenses. His father, Xueqi Li of Covina, died of blunt force trauma, according to the coroner's office.

A representative for the city of Azusa did not reply to a request for comment on the suit brought Thursday.

The collision occurred about 9 p.m. Jan. 31 in the unincorporated community of Charter Oak as Xueqi Li was crossing a street when Officer Keith Geoffrey Ascar, headed east on Cienega Avenue at Asherton Avenue, mistakenly hit him with his motorcycle, according to the suit.

Xueqi Li was taken to Pomona Valley where he was pronounced dead. His son has lost his father's love, support and companionship, the suit states.
