I know that the film Back to the Future expected us to have flying cars by now, but hey, apparently we have robots delivering our pizza! Dominoes Pizza, name of 16,100 stores worldwide, plans to test some self-driving minivans this year. The vans will not include a steering wheel, breaks, nor a hold a human monitor. The only space in the Vehicle will be designated to food. Customers will have the option to choose either a human or robot deliverer. If the latter is chosen, customers will receive a one-time access code that unlocks the care holding their food, Fast Company reports.
Dominoes plans to test the new delivery service later this year in Houston, Texas. The fully autonomous mini delivery van called the R1 is created by a California-based company - Nuro. As for size, the van is about eight and a half feet in length and “half the width of a Toyota Corolla,” says Nuro’s head of partner relations, Cosimo Leipold
Nuro is previously known for other self-driving delivery systems such as the supermarket grocery system from Scottsdale, Arizona.
