There is a unique iron-man competition that takes place every 4th of July in Hermosa Beach. Competitors run a mile, paddle a mile and then chug a six pack of beer.
A KTLA reporter, Wendy Burch, drew the short straw and had to cover this boozy event. She was trying her best to cover the event in a professional manner but half-naked drunken bodies surrounded her. She picked out a larger participants to help block out some of the events transpiring off camera.
Unfortunately her interviewee had a "puke here" bulls-eye on his back and someone decided to accept the challenge. She was puked on during a live shot during the morning news. The station quickly cut-away but the damage was done to the unsuspecting viewers and reporter.
Burch wrote about the incident in an article for the Huffington Post.
I grabbed a guy who appeared to be a spirited competitor, and from the evidence of his beer belly, had been clearly training for this event for years. My hope was that his broad… ah, erh… shoulders, could shield our morning viewers from the ups—and from what wasn’t staying down—in this competition. What I didn’t notice until later, is that he had a bulls-eye drawn on his back with the words “puke here” written in magic marker.
And wouldn’t you know it? Someone took him up on the offer right during the middle of my live report, much to the chagrin, of me, our anchors and anyone in Southern California who may have been eating breakfast at that very moment.
