On Wednesday, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky said that the CDC will be 'restructured' to better strengthen its public-heath responses.

She said that they intend to create better communication throughout the agency, citing their response to the COVID-19 pandemic that started back in 2020...

“In our big moment, our performance did not reliably meet expectations,” Dr. Walensky said. “I want us all to do better, and it starts with CDC leading the way.”

According to Dr. Walensky, the changes include:

  • a better lab division to report to the CDC
  • restructuring of the communications office
  • focus more on preparedness and response

“There needs to be increasing recognition that you have to provide people with credible guidance, even before the best studies have been completed,” said Richard Besser, chief executive officer of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. “The credibility piece really comes down to how you communicate.”
